Curren$y & Wiz Khalifa are two of our favorite up-and-coming artists here at iDealTaste, and we've recently been noticing several collaborations between the two artists.
Eminem is SAVAGE for this one & I'm loving it! I guess Nick Cannon's lame comments & Mariah Carey's video were enough for Em, as he's just dropped "The Warning" dissing the couple.
I've been waiting on this video for a minute now. It's not my favorite song by Cudi, who I'm a big fan of, but I'm sure it will do well for his album. Besides, it seems like everything Kanye touches turns to gold right about now.
We are all well aware of the heavy role that sampling plays in the production of modern music, particularly in hip-hop. Whenever a sample strikes my interest on a good track, I try to make it a point to listen to the original song if I haven't already.
What can I say about Sebastien Tellier, an artist who I feel is one of the most talented musicians out there, yet hasn't yet become a household name here in the U.S. Hailing from France, Tellier is a singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist who has been around for almost ten years now.
Over the past couple of weeks I’ve been listening to a lot of house and electronic music. One of the songs I’ve discovered during this time is Alex Metric’s “In Your Machine (Treasure Fingers remix).” This is a great track and it has really grown on me over the past few days. Once I downloaded it I couldn’t stop playing it, so hopefully you’ll enjoy it too.
Shoutouts to Hear-it-First & Crew 54
What it is kinfolk, just wanted to drop off this weeks 54 Reality Show, even if its a tad bit late. We’ve been so busy pushing out the Pay Us No Mind video we forgot to shoot this weeks episode of the blog out. It’s packed to the top with performances from Sleep of Oldiminion, Pac Div, B.O.B., Kid Cudi, Asher Roth, Bill Ray, and De La Soul. Plus we got some funny outtakes from the Pay Us No Mind Video to round it out.
Let us know if you get a chance to check it out, I think we represented for hip-hop in Central TX well with this one.

Nothing screams “street credit” more than the influence Gangster/Hood Related films have had on the Hip-Hop World. In a society where the media heavily influences the culture and street hustling can lead to quicker financial advancements than schooling (Although the street success is not promised), many rappers have developed their gritty, hard-core identity after these films. Perhaps The Godfather,Scarface,American Gangster,Carlito’s Way,Boyz N Da Hood, and Goodfellas ring a bell.
While box-offices thrive on showing these films for great business, there are lots who sit in the theatre, watching in awe, as these films educate some on the prerequisite of being labeled a Gangster or Top Dog In Charge.
On May 26th, 1993, The Hughes Brothers Allen & Albert, showcased yet another “Crash Course” into the life of urban violence, profanity and drug content in the film “Menace II Society”. In the movie, the main character (Caine) goes through the challenges of life upon graduating High School in L.A.
In Menace II Society, there were two scenes that stood out the most. The first scene, where Caine & O-Dog (Lorenze Tate) walk into a corner store and are constantly harrassed by the owners to purchase something and leave immediately. After the male store owner insults O-Dog by saying “I Feel Sorry For Your Mother” O-Dog goes into an outrage and robs the store, taking the security tapes and the owners life. Here is the clip:
In the second scene, Caine and the homies decide to make moves for the night, and while making a stop to the gas station, Caine’s cousin was killed while being robbed at a stop light:
The last and most rememorable scene was when the day Caine, Ronnie, Stacy and Sharif are preparing to leave Los Angeles, a car drives by and a drive-by shooting takes place—one of the shooters is the man Caine assaulted after denying responsibility for the pregnancy. Sharif is killed instantly, and Caine is shot several times while protecting Anthony. As Caine lies in Stacy’s arms dying while O-Dog goes to find help, Caine reminisces on everything that he has done through the summer. There is a flashing image of O-Dog being hustled into a police cruiser in handcuffs, presumably for the liquor store murder committed at the beginning of the movie. Caine admits that he wishes he had made better decisions, but now it was too late to correct them, his final words, given in voice over are: (more…)
Take a look at Slum Village’s new video for “Actin’ Normal” off their upcoming Villa Manifesto. The clip is directed by R&B artist and frequent Slum Village collaborator (the classic “Tainted”) Dwele, accompanying the smooth track quite well. Have a taste & tell us how you feel…

Normally i wouldn’t post something like this, as it’s just album artwork & not exactly music-related, however Kid CuDi is one of my favorite new artists & I’m highly interested in all updates regarding his debut. CuDi’s Man On The Moon: The End of Day will be dropping September 15, and the album artwork has just been released & it is DOPE. Above is the cover for the Standard Edition, while the slightly more complex artwork for the Deluxe DVD Edition can be seen below. Patiently Waiting…

Bonus: Check out hi-res images of the actual artwork without text after the jump: (more…)
In the above clip, iDealTaste favorites Trey Songz & Drake provide some behind the scenes access for their video shoot for “Successful” in Toronto. The friends seem to be having a great time filming, and I’m definitely looking forward to the final result. As a huge fan of Trey Songz especially it was great to hear that the track will now be appearing on his September album Ready, with an extra verse from Songz & no Lil’ Wayne feature. Check out the new version below, and go pick up Ready when it drops…
As funny as this clip is, this is probably the worst rap battle I have ever witnessed. It’s funny because when you love something so much, that you actually try to do it, and it doesn’t work, your definitely blown. But when looking at this, im glad that everyone cannot be an artist/producer/songwriter or whatever, because bammas will say anything out their mouth, as well as do anything!

Here’s an all access pass to Santigold at the Lollapalooza Music Festival – 8.8.09. From the incredible show she gave to a packed Grant Park to the exclusive after party where we also catch up with the GZA and see how he worked out lyrics just moments before hitting the stage with her.

If you can recap this year, Yung Joc has had a pretty successful grind up to date. On almost every hot R&B track, Joc was on it blazing a hot 16, or even joaning on the “Looking Boy” track, Joc has excelled and progressed his career on every song that he has gotten on. There has been news lately that Joc will be releasing a free album soon, that folks can download off his website. I think it speaks high volumes, and I predict that soon these mainstream artist will in fact take the template for indie success and apply it to their own marketing.
With the exception of Jeezy, almost everyone in ATL seems to favor Gucci Mane and his mob. “Birds” is a track off Joc’s current mixtape Grind Flu, which features the All-Star Trap Team Gucci Mane,OJ Da Juiceman, & Nicki Minaj. All you need is Gorilla Zoe on there, and you would have thought it was a trap invasion! This song is rocking, and by now you should already know that anytime these names appear on a song, its going to keep your speakers happy, your head nodding, and the people around you saying “Damn, what song is that?” Enjoy!

The mixtape, Boss of All Bosses, also heavily features Cam’s newest protege Vado, who has shown great potential on the tracks I’ve heard him on thus far. Most of the mixtape is all new material, which is great news for me as a huge fan of Cam since the early days. So wait no longer, check out the download link & tracklist below. Have a taste & enjoy…
